On October 18, 2013 the full moon called the Hunter  Moon was being touted as a super moon...So we had to be somewhere to get a great view. Tom (my Loving Husband) Myself and Cristina (my loving daughter) took a ride and then a hike at High Point State Park here in N.J. , High Point being the highest elevation in the State at 1804' did not disappoint. We waited at the main parking lot next to the monument that is an obelisk akin to the Washington Monument  for sunset. What an amazing view!!! You can see the Delaware River, Pennsylvania,New York and New Jersey pretty much simultaneously.

The photograph above is my favorite  from that evening of the sun setting and moon rising. Below are some additional photos from our visit to High Point.

                     Silversmithing

One of the mediums in which I work is metals or silversmithing.  A perfect medium for a perfectionist to drive themselves mad. When you are dealing with millimeters and centimeters you know you need to be precise. But I have to say there is nothing like sitting down with a acetylene torch and soldering and constructing forms into which you get to place beautiful stones.  And anyone who knows me knows my love of rocks, when I travel it is inevitable my suitcase will be heavier on the way home because of the bags of rocks or single small boulder stowed away inside. You can purchase any of the jewelry pictured and many other pieces of my handmade jewelry by visiting my etsy store at : https://www.etsy.com/shop/Wareables   Sorry I have not figured out how to hyper link each individual photograph.

       Elephants Love Flowers

This mosaic was a commissioned Valentine's Day gift. A friends girlfriend has a photo of this image as a screen saver on her phone and she loves elephants.

The base for the mosaic was 1/2" thick masonite. I sketch directly on the masonite using pencil and then draw in the final lines with permanent marker. The next step is to cut the glass and build the image in sections.

For this mosaic I used gray and black cathedral glass tiles for the elephants,  blue and white swirl cathedral tile for the sky, carnelian and jasper cabochons for the flower centers and cathedral glass for the flower petals, mountains and leaves. Iridized orange tone glass was used for the side edge of the mosaic

SOLD

I began to work with Mosaic glass about two years ago. I really do not know what specifically drew me into wanting to work with mosaics, although I have had a fascination with mosaics that goes back to my childhood and growing up and going to both Catholic and Ukranian Orthodox churches and the stained glass windows and mosaic murals  in the churches. I remember how looking at and analyzing the mosaic and stained glass imagery in these churches were what I looked forward to breaking my boredom when I was forced to go to church.  I was particularly drawn to the smalti icons of the Saints in the Orthodox church and how the colors of the tile were blended to create flesh tones and details in the mosaics and the backgrounds of bright gold shimmering tile.

The first piece I designed is the top of my bedroom side table, actually I never finished that piece and it still remains ungrouted. I will get to finishing that table one day. I refer to working with mosaics as painting with glass because that is quite literally what you are doing when working with mosaics. You are painting with glass. Any image you can think of from photo realistic to hard edge geometric can be built in mosaic.

Below is a sampling of some of the mosaics I have completed. All are for sale if not already sold, so shoot me an email if you are interested in any of these pieces. Or have a custom mosaic built to your specifications. I LOVE custom orders.
